Firestone Walker: Core Beers vs Barrel-Aged Releases, Shipping Rules and the Shop

Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a Californian brewery based in Paso Robles, known for 805, Union Jack IPA, Mind Haze and a respected barrel-aged programme. Its website covers the beers, the brewery venues and an online shop selling merchandise and, where the law allows, beer.

Everything on this page is for adults of legal drinking age, which is 21 in the US. Drink responsibly and never drive after drinking. A good Firestone Walker order means knowing what the shop can legally send to you, which beers are worth buying direct, and how to store them.

Core beers versus limited releases

Firestone Walker's year-round beers, such as 805, Union Jack and Mind Haze, are widely sold in grocery and liquor stores. There is little reason to order these direct unless the shop has a bundle or a code that beats your local price.

The Firestone Walker barrel-aged and limited releases are different. Beers from the Proprietor's Reserve series, the annual Anniversary blend and the Barrelworks wild and sour programme are made in small quantities and can be hard to find on shelves. These are the bottles that justify buying from the brewery.

Limited Firestone Walker releases sell out. Follow the release calendar and have your account set up before a drop.

What the shop can ship, and where

Alcohol shipping in the US is regulated state by state. Firestone Walker can only ship beer to the states where it is permitted, and the list can change. Check the shop's shipping rules for your address before building a basket.

Beer deliveries require an adult aged 21 or over to sign for them with ID. Plan to be home, or have the order sent to an address where an adult will be present.

If beer cannot be shipped to you, the Firestone Walker merchandise side of the shop still works: clothing, hats, glassware and gifts ship far more widely.

Storing barrel-aged bottles

Strong barrel-aged Firestone Walker beers are often built to age, and some drinkers cellar them for a year or more to let the flavours change. Store bottles upright, somewhere cool and dark, away from temperature swings.

Hoppy beers such as IPAs are the opposite. Hop aroma fades within weeks, so drink Union Jack and Mind Haze fresh. Check the packaged-on date on Firestone Walker cans and bottles.

Wild and sour beers from Barrelworks are generally more stable, but still prefer cool, dark storage.

When a Firestone Walker shipment arrives, especially in summer, move it somewhere cool straight away and let it rest a day before opening. Heat in transit is the main enemy of beer quality, which is another reason some drinkers avoid ordering in the hottest months.

Serve barrel-aged Firestone Walker beers a little warmer than a lager, in a smaller glass, and share a bottle. These beers are often high in alcohol, so a standard serving is much smaller than a pint.

Visiting the brewery venues

Firestone Walker runs taprooms and restaurants in California, including the Paso Robles brewery and the Barrelworks facility in Buellton. Some limited beers are sold only at these venues or are released there first.

If you are near one, visiting lets you taste before buying bottles. Check opening times on the Firestone Walker site before travelling, and arrange a designated driver or transport. Tasting flights let you try several beers in small pours.

Merchandise and gifts

The Firestone Walker shop sells branded clothing, caps, glassware and gift items. Merchandise sizing follows standard T-shirt blanks, so check the size chart. Glassware designed for specific beer styles makes a practical gift for a beer drinker of legal age.

Returns on merchandise are normally possible within a set window; alcohol is typically non-returnable. Check the current Firestone Walker policy.

Where the Firestone Walker savings are

The 30% code is the biggest discount and reads like a promotional-day code, so it may apply only to merchandise or have expired. Try it first.

The $20 code beats 30% on any Firestone Walker basket under about $67, such as a T-shirt and a set of glasses. It may carry a minimum order value.

WELCOME10 is the new-customer fallback, and is usually single use.

Alcohol discounts are restricted by law in some states, so codes may not apply to beer at all. Use them on Firestone Walker merchandise if a beer order rejects them, and only one code normally applies per order.

Common questions

Can Firestone Walker ship beer to my state?

Only to states where it is allowed. Check the shop's shipping rules for your address.

Do I need to be 21 to order from Firestone Walker?

Yes, for beer. An adult must show ID on delivery.

Should I age Firestone Walker IPAs?

No. Drink IPAs fresh; only strong barrel-aged beers suit ageing.

Do Firestone Walker codes work on beer?

Not always. State rules may limit alcohol discounts, so try merchandise instead.
