CCleaner: Free vs Professional vs Professional Plus, Device Counts and Renewals

CCleaner is PC maintenance software from Piriform, now part of Gen Digital. It removes temporary files, browser leftovers and unwanted startup programs, and paid editions add driver updates, scheduled cleaning and extra utilities. There are versions for Windows, Mac and Android, plus a business edition.

A CCleaner purchase goes well when you know whether the free version already covers what you need, how many devices the licence must cover, and what the renewal will cost after the first year.

What CCleaner Free already does

CCleaner Free handles the core job: clearing temporary files, browser caches and recycle bin contents, and managing which apps start with Windows. For many home users that is all the cleaning a PC needs.

It is manual. You open it, run the cleaner and review what it removes. If you are happy doing that once a month, the free CCleaner may be enough.

Download CCleaner only from its official site. Installers from download portals can bundle other software, and the official installer itself may offer extra products that you can untick.

Professional versus Professional Plus

CCleaner Professional adds automatic and scheduled cleaning, real-time browser cleaning, a driver updater, a software updater and performance tools that put background apps to sleep. It suits people who want the maintenance to happen without remembering.

CCleaner Professional Plus has bundled Professional with other Piriform tools: Defraggler for disk defragmentation, Recuva for recovering deleted files and Speccy for hardware information. It has usually covered more devices too.

Recuva is the one most people end up needing, after deleting something by mistake. If that sounds useful, Plus is the better buy; check the current CCleaner bundle contents before paying.

Device counts and platforms

Each CCleaner plan covers a set number of devices. Count every machine you want covered, including a laptop you use occasionally, before choosing the plan.

Check which platforms a licence covers. Some CCleaner plans include Windows, Mac and Android devices under one subscription, while others are Windows-only. The Mac version has a different feature set from Windows.

A licence can usually be moved from an old PC to a new one by deactivating it first. Keep the licence key email in a safe place.

Subscriptions and auto-renewal

CCleaner paid editions are sold as annual subscriptions that renew automatically. The first-year price is often discounted, and the renewal can be charged at a higher standard rate.

Note the renewal date when you buy. If you do not want the plan to renew, turn off auto-renewal in your CCleaner account, which usually keeps the licence active until the end of the paid year.

Refunds have been offered within a money-back window after purchase and renewal. Check the current CCleaner refund terms rather than relying on a set number of days.

CCleaner prices tend to drop during seasonal software sales such as Black Friday and New Year. If your current licence has a few months left, wait for one of those windows and turn off auto-renewal so you can buy the new year at the sale price instead of the standard renewal rate.

Using the paid tools safely

Take care with the registry cleaner. Modern Windows gains little from registry cleaning, and removing the wrong entry can break software. If you use it, let CCleaner save the backup it offers first.

The driver updater is convenient, but a new driver can occasionally cause problems. Create a restore point before updating graphics or chipset drivers, or update those from the manufacturer's site.

Review what the cleaner will delete. Clearing browser cookies logs you out of every site, which surprises people the first time CCleaner runs.

CCleaner for Business

CCleaner has sold business editions for companies with several PCs, including a cloud-managed version that lets an administrator clean and update machines remotely. Consumer licences are generally not meant for commercial use.

For a small office, compare the business per-device price with the admin time it saves. Remote management matters once you have more than a handful of machines.

Where the CCleaner savings are

CCLEANERCCLEANER40OFF — 40% offSHOW COUPON CODE
CCLEANERBUSWELCOME20 — 20% off business plansSHOW COUPON CODE
CCLEANERDISCOUNT — $20 offSHOW COUPON CODE

The 40% code is the one for home users and gives the biggest cut on CCleaner Professional or Professional Plus. Check whether it applies to the first year only, which is normal.

The 20% business code is for CCleaner business plans. Use it for office licences; it will not apply to home editions.

The $20 code beats 40% only on orders under $50. Compare both on your chosen plan, since CCleaner prices vary by country and currency.

Codes do not stack with each other or with a sale price already shown. Confirm the renewal price on the order summary before paying.
